Won't Be Erased
Overview
On Sunday, October 21, 2018, The New York Times reported that the Trump administration was considering to exclude transgender and non-binary citizens from their legal definition(s) for gender, which would essentially eradicate access to health care, housing, and public services for nearly 1.4 million Americans. In response to the news, activists and allies reacted with social media posts and signs, reading “Won’t Be Erased,” to protest the discriminatory policy proposal and advocate for the federal recognition and rights of non-binary and transgender people.
Ahead of the New York City Stands With Transgender Communities Rally, hosted at City Hall on October 24, 2018, by NYC community organizations and elected officials, I illustrated that the communities in solidarity can’t be written off, or quite literally can’t be erased, with typographic images that appear to have been manipulated by a failed attempt to wipe away its existence.
